Q10: Where can I find more information on becoming a better leader?

Q10: Where can I find more information on becoming a better leader?

One of the stated purposes of the Michigan Wing L.E.A.D. Academy is to develop our leaders to their fullest potential, at whatever level of the organization they choose to be a leader. As part of this development, the L.E.A.D. Academy is charged with holding four face to face seminars in July, October, January and April. Our July course was held at Encampment in Alpena. The details about that course and a list of the materials was contained in L.E.A.D. CAP Career Survival Tip #6. It contained information about the “Be” part of our motto, which is “Be, Know, Do!” The next segment will contain information on the “Know” part of our motto and is being held at Capital City Airport in the terminal in the Marion “Babe” Ruth Community Room on  Saturday 28 October 2017 from 1000 to 1500 hours with a lunch break included. More information with an on-line registration page will be published in about two weeks. This is an excellent source of information to become a better leader.
Another source can be found on CAP‘s CAP University website called ACTIV2E Leadership. https://www.capmembers.com/cap_university/active-leadership/   It is a short set of readings that you should find helpful.
CAP‘s Officer Basic Course, Squadron Leadership School, Corporate Learning Course, Training Leaders of Cadets, Unit Commander’s Course, Region Staff College and National Staff College are also great places to gain more information and are excellent networking opportunities.
Our new National Commander Maj Gen Mark Smith is a staunch proponent of servant leadership. He recommends at least three books that everyone should read. The first is True North: Discover Your Authentic Leadership by Bill George. The second is The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People; Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R Covey. The third is, It’s Not About the Coffee, Leadership Principles from a Life at Starbucks by Howard Behar. These can all be found on line at various prices from various vendors in both hardcover, soft cover and electronic ebook format.
And my final suggestion for a good source is the CAP Cadet Program’s Learn to Lead Volumes 1-4, found at https://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/library/learn-to-lead/
