Q14: How can I earn the Brig Gen Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager Award?
This award can only be earned by senior members. It was formally known as the Aerospace Education Program for Senior Members Award (AEPSM).
CAPR 280-2 states in paragraph 2.a.1.(b) Yeager Test. This element is a self-paced study based on the CAP text, Aerospace: The Journey of Flight (3rd edition). All active adult members have the responsibility to read and become knowledgeable about the content of this text. Once members are ready to take the Yeager test, they have two options; open book or closed book. Members are encouraged to take the test on-line through CAP’s Learning Management System, or they may opt to take a paper test at their unit. For more information about the Yeager testing procedures, refer to CAPP 15, Aerospace Education Officers’ Handbook. After successful completion of the test, members will receive the Brigadier General Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager Aerospace Education Achievement Award and are authorized to wear the Yeager Award ribbon.
The study materials for this test can be found in eServices or you can order a hardcopy of the textbook from Vanguard. To look at the online version, after logging in to eServices, select Aerospace Education and then Downloads and Resources. Aerospace: The Journey of Flight 3rd Edition is the first selection on the left in the second row from the top. Read the material and read the chapter review questions.
When you are ready to take the test, log in to eServices. Go to Online Learning, then Learning Management System. Go to the Aerospace Education section and the Yeager Test is the last item in that section.
Lastly, the Yeager Award is now a requirement for completion of Level III.
CAPR 50-17 states:
